Bono's efforts to help the poor

I was reading on the USA Today website and became intrigued with an article about the U2 rock star, Bono, stepping out and encouraging government officials to give the world's poor an additional 1% of the federal budget. Bono's efforts to "go the extra mile" and stand up for poverty stricken souls really encouraged me. The article said:

"Speaking to President Bush and members of Congress at the National Prayer Breakfast, the U2 front man said it's unjust to keep poor people from selling their goods while singing the virtues of the free market, to hold children to ransom for the debts of their grandparents and to withhold medicines that would save lives."

What is it going to take for more people to stand by Bono's words and provide justice to those less fortunate? What can we do as college students and young professionals to help? just some thoughts...
