State of the Union

After the class discussion about the formation of party affiliation, it was interesting to watch the partisan reactions to the State of the Union Address last night. Any viewer could see the tension between Republicans and Democrats. It was rather discomforting to see the anger in the faces of the president and members of congress when controversial subjects like social security and spying were discussed. It makes me wonder how we expect to achieve something oversees when we obviously have battles waging at home. Is compromise possible at this point? It appeared unlikely when Democrats rose in sarcasm to the president's failed social security plan, and when the president openly criticized those who second guess him. The Adress didn't leave me with a sense of hope. It left me with a sense of worry about the long road to getting anything accomplished in the next two years.
