New Orleans Mayoral Campaign
The New Orleans mayoral elections are coming up in the near future, and many of the city's citizens are still displaced from last year's hurricane, living in other cities, etc. Do any of ya'll think this could have a great effect on the election's results? Also, do ya'll think the normal concepts that apply to difficulty in unseating an incumbent will be in effect here, or is this situation going to be different considering some of the criticism incumbent Ray Nagin has endured since Hurricane Katrina last August and some of the remarks he made in its aftermath?

I definitely think the upcoming election will be effected by the displaced citizens. Hurricane Katrina brought more problems than just physical damage. The psychological damage and emotional trauma of the hurricane will influence voting decisions. I don't think the normal concepts that apply to difficulty in unseating an incumbent will apply because the people know what Nagin has done, what he has NOT done and what he is trying to do. A lot of the criticism he has received is due to some citizens just wanting to have someone to blame for their problems. Nevertheless, I feel some citizens will want a new man in charge since (again) they know where Nagin stands and what he has to offer.
