nancy pelosi

There have been recent controversy concerning Nancy Pelosi's visit to Iran. I know that the white house people are not liking how she is creating mixed messages. I don't know what is the whole story. Does anyone know anything about this and their view on the issue.

Comments:
Well, Syria is a country that the U.S. has said sponsors terroism. It is also one of the few countries in the region to refuse the influence of our government, Iran being another, and until recently Iraq.

It has been our policy to pretty much not talk to anyone in the region. The big question on my mind is, why does our government allow U.S. companies to make millions of dollars doing business with these "rouge nations", but our lawmakers cant talk to them without an uproar from the administration and some media outlets.

There is such a culture shock whenever we enter the region, something I don't think the administration didn't have any idea about. When the President heard that there were sunnis and shia in the region, he said that he thought they were all Muslim over there.

Without knowing your enemy you have no chance of ever defeating them, and you definetly can never reach a compromise. I'm not saying we should give in to our enemies, but if there is no dialogue, I dont think that there is any hope.

Hello Jessica,

I also am not sure about the significance of the whole historical events in the Middle East. But I do think that you've crossed your countries up. Iran is the country holding the British Military personnel captive. Syria is the country House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited.
I found this on the Internet:
Iran vowed to back Syria against "challenges and threats" faces strong US pressure
- Words of Iranian Vice President "We’re ready to help Syria on all grounds to confront threats,"
- Washington said if Iran and Syria aimed remarks at US they were "misreading the issue"
Following comments from former Press Secretary to President:
> Countries should focus on meeting their international obligations
> Their problem not with United States, it's with international community
> Syria and Iran ... need to abide by the commitments they have made
- US accused Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons and has withdrawn its envoy to Damascus
- US tensions with Syria soared after killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri
-- Although Washington has not accused Damascus of responsibility
- US Secretary of State told Senate foreign affairs committee decision to recall ambassador
-- A culmination of "long series of problems" with Syria
-- Allegations Damascus harbored Iraqi insurgents
-- Allowed them to cross into Iraq to fight against US troops
- Washington considering sanctions against Syria
-- Due to refusal to withdraw 14,000 troops from Lebanon
- BBC diplomatic says Syrian authorities looking isolated
-- With only Iranians speaking on their behalf
- Iran's vice-president said his country stand with Syria
- Our Syrian brothers facing specific threats
-- We hope they benefit from our experience
-- We’re ready to give them any help necessary
- Syria's ambassador in US denied the common front was an alliance against Washington
-- Syria spokesperson claimed to CNN, we do not want to be enemies to U.S.
- Washington hinted about taking military action against Iran over its nuclear program
-- US says aimed at producing a bomb
Now, about Speaker Pelosi's visit to Iran; don't make any mistakes about the Grand Scheme of things. If you have any siblings, there's a good possibility you'll disagree and squabble about things on occasions, but likely you still love and protect each other. It's the same situation with the Republicans and the Democrats. In a nutshell, the White House rightly so advised Speaker Pelosi not to take the trip to Syria. But remember under abnormal circumstances, Speaker Pelosi is about two heart beats from assuming the Presidential office and she's an attractive woman visiting a region where women are less respected. If anything adversely had of happened to her on that trip, the situation would have forced the White House's hand to act promptly and decisively to rescue her. If that isn't plain enough, the interpretation is "All of Hell would have broken loose" to defend Speaker Pelosi. In other words, Afghanistan and the Iraq war are small potatoes; her trip placed Washington in a very sensitive predicament.
