New York and Cali are in Trouble

New York and California are in dire trouble. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared a $4 billion dollar gap in the budget. So far he has planned to cut 23,000 city jobs and plans on hiking the hell out of taxes. New York is going slip into a horrible state of poverty. Poverty usually begets crime. Let’s just hope there won’t be cuts to law enforcement.

There are also 15,000 education jobs that are in jeopardy. Never, under any circumstances, should education funding be cut. I would rather have a community of smart, poor people than dumb people any day. New York has always been heralded as one of the greatest cities in the world and now it will begin to deteriorate.

California is no Spring chicken either. The entire state has a $45 billion deficit through the year 2010. A state of over 30 million people is about to run out of money. California, New York and the rest of the country is at a terrible tipping point. The final push over the edge will be a natural disaster. Let’s just hope nature is in a good mood this year.

Comments:
I think it is sad that certain states in our government can not manage their budget. Part of the reason these states are in this mess is because they are spending money just like the CEOs on Wallstreet. Something needs to be done about all of this spending. Lawmakers need to realize that we can not just keep spending and spending and never worry about paying for it. I understand running a state government costs a lot, but lawmakers should stick to the budget. There should be more accountability.

It's horrible what's happening in CA. The government has basically had to write IOUs to people who over paid on their taxes because it can't afford to give them a return. The problem is bad all over the country. I wonder if it is worse in state's with large deficits or in state's with constitutional mandates to balance their budgets.

That is sad. California and New York are the last two places that need to be cutting jobs and increasing taxes. Too many people live there for them to be going through type of DRAMA.
