U forgot about Me!!

In class on thursday we talked about how if you have several candidates it would be really hard for them to have a debate. In Memphis they have 25 candidates for the mayor race which is insane. They decided to have a debate but only invited the top candidates. Several candidates that were left out came to the debate and brought supporters for a major protest. The supporters chanted and held up several posters outside of the venue.

Comments:
It is really funny that candidates for races do not get equal coverage and attention. It takes money, networking, and most importantly, who you know, to be covered in any type of election. Especially in major state and national races, it is obvious that not everybody can run for office. It's just funny to me that money is not an official requirement for running for office. Because it is in the actual election.

It's sad to say that just about everything in our society boils down to whether you have the money for it or not. Doesn't matter if the money belongs to you or not, but if you can raise it and show that your organization has the most (whatever type you may want it to be) then you have more coverage, pull, influence, status, etc.

I think it would be really interesting if money was cut out of the equation. I know it is feasibly impossible, but imagine how different races would be. Everything would be based on word of mouth which could end in some seariously misconstrued words, but then again, people hear things incorrectly on the television all the time.
